There was a rumor that Google will be ditching Nexus 6. The rumor was surfaced few weeks ago and made everyone in the industry confused. However, as per recent news, Nexus 6 is still tipped to be released. A report by Ausdroid referred to a source who work in Google and is very close to the Nexus 6. The unnamed tipster informed Google Nexus 6 will be released later this year.
The rumor claimed Google is currently tired of seeing Apple getting all the praise for stylish and captivating designs. So the search engine giant thought of launching a new program called Android Silver Line.

The new program will be implemented at the cost of Nexus 6. Google will discard Nexus Smartphones and strike a deal with original equipment manufacturers so they build and sell cutting edge devices; those devices will be true to Google’s specifications by limiting the number of preinstalled non-Google apps or by making the device owners able to uninstall them.
However, Dan Rowinski of Readwriteweb said the rumors are exaggerated. He admitted Google is working on a new program called Android Silver which would see participation of top manufacturers such as Samsung, Motorola, LG and Sony to release Smartphones that adhere to terms and conditions, set by Google. But he rubbished the claim that the existing Nexus series will be replaced by Android Silver Line. He said, “those reports are basically wrong. The Nexus program will continue and Android users can expect to see a new Nexus device when Google releases Android L later this year.”
Rowinski’s statement was confirmed by Dave Burke, the head of Android Engineering and Nexus Program at Google. Burke refers to Google’s tradition of releasing a new Nexus device every time it builds a new named and numbered version of Android. As Android 5.0 Lollipop is slated for release in this fall, we can assume Nexus 6 is also on the cards. About the Nexus 6 cancellation rumor, Burke said, “People have been commenting about Nexus because there is something else and they think that means the end of Nexus. That is the totally wrong conclusion to make.”
A recent report on Ausdroid claimed Nexus 6 will mimic LG G3 with a 5.5 inch screen. Nexus 6 will probably be developed by LG. As G3 has a 5.5 inch screen, the same is expected from Nexus 6. Other possible specs of the phone include a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a PPI of 534. Nexus 6 is likely to have an 64 bit octa-core MediaTek processor. The phone may also have fingerprint scanning and IP67-certified dust-proof and water-resistance. The device will be running on the new Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Some sources claimed LG will not make Nexus 6. Ken Hong said he isn’t disappointed that LG won’t be manufacturing the next Nexus phone. He’s however trying to look at its good side as he said, “If you can develop a Google phone that gives credibility. But money you earn is not easy, and you become too dependent on Google.”
The release date of Nexus 6 is not yet known. Hopefully, the device will release in October.
